Re: New writing font for monospace lovers...

Just in case any screenwriters are reading this, you need to use a 12-point, 10-pitch mono font for screenplays. Otherwise, your page count will be off.

Re: [JH] Scriptwriting Mode

Yeah, but L&L has such a small sample size for screenwriters, I don't want them getting the idea that your preferences represent the market at large. Page breaks and page count are features that the majority of screenwriters want and need.

Re: [JH] Scriptwriting Mode

There are things you don't need when writing a screenplay: scene numbers, page numbers and page breaks. Some will disagree about the last one - the ideal writing environment is obviously not the same for everyone. I disagree. For me (and I think the majority of working screenwriters), page breaks a...

Re: Creating a Keyboard Shortcut for Open in Copyholder

Buy Keyboard Maestro . It's a macro program for OSX, and I find it essential for making the most out of Scrivener. In addition to simple keystroke aliases, it can do complex, multiple-step procedures. KM can also be triggered by folder activity like Hazel, by typing shortcuts like TextExpander, or b...

A-list Screenwriters call out Scrivener flaws at AFF 2017 event.

Just a heads up, maybe someone from L&L should reach out to Craig Mazin and John August. In episode 326 of Scriptnotes (their wildly popular screenwriting podcast) they held a live 3-page challenge at the 2017 Austin Film Festival. This is an event where they critique three pages from a listener...

Re: Feedback Wanted: How do you structure your Scriv projects?

When I write screenplays in Scrivener, I often have a strict folder hierarchy even past the scene level. I'll sometimes have a folder representing a scene, and several text documents representing functional parts of a scene (what writers call "beats.") This allows me to address the scene i...

Re: SCRIVENER FOR IPHONE & IPAD IMPORTANT FEATURE

You might have better luck using OmniFocus . If you're not familiar with it, OF is a task manager based on Getting Things Done (GTD.) Omni has versions for Mac, iPhone and iPad. They all have a fast-open notepad for capturing ideas, that also has many options for filing or categorizing the informati...

Binder & Splitting

I hope Scrivener iPad has a Binder, and that Splitting makes the cut. One of the great pleasures of using Scrivener is blasting out a long text document about some aspect of the project, then splitting it into ideas (often renaming with selection), and organizing the ideas into the Binder. It would ...

Re: Screenwriting & Omni Inspiration

Very excited about Scrivener for iPad. Please, PLEASE, design your Screenwriting Editor to be non-modal, just like Scrivener on the Mac. Some iPad screenwriting apps like FadeIn put up a modal box for you to type in every time you change paragraphs: http://i39.tinypic.com/2i7tflk.jpg This breaks the...

Re: Poll: Product activation in the garden of good and evil

I did some IP and sales tracking after we released the version with activation, and we got a shocking number of sales from ex-pirates. You can't argue with financial success. The activation is more than fair - it will never prevent you from using Scrivener if you're a registered user, internet conn...

Re: Poll: Product activation in the garden of good and evil

KB, I dislike activation. It doesn't add any value for the customer, but does add the potential for new errors, and other time-wasters. It also does not prevent piracy. A cursory Google search reveals that the pirate twerps have already defeated your activation scheme. They are already distributing ...

Re: Question for Screenwriters

Popcorn, Can you please explain more clearly for me what you do now. Basically, I write in scene-sized chunks in Scrivener, setting my window so about 1 page of FD script shows in the editor. Not precise, but it's a start. Since my scenes tend to be 2-3 pages long, it's possible to get a sense of t...

Re: Question for Screenwriters

Don't you think working in "chunks" is what every writer does? Or maybe I'm not clear on how "chunks" apply to screenwriting. Generally we outline, then outline index cards/scenes, then write from that. Each scene or index card is a "chunk?" Exactly. When I'm under the...

Re: Question for Screenwriters

I call bullshit on that whole page-count target thing, especially in early drafts of a screenplay I guess I'm just saying that, in my personal experience, when I'm feeling hung up on something like page count in Scrivener (it's happened), I'm actually hung up on something else, like story. Not ever...
