I couldn't open the demo because it doesn't have a recognizable file type.

It seems that many of the suggestions to offload footnotes are coming from people who don't use or need them regularly. Actually, the responses are more subtle than that. Maria has the wise view: among footnoters, there are minimal and maximal users. Journalists often write extensive notes for fact...

So... What would people think of inspector-based footnotes? I was going to suggest that, but figured it was too much work on your part. I use the Notes section for all my thoughts, queries, and reminders. So if I were footnoting, I could put them there as well. However, if I want an EndNote item in...

I don't have much stake in this discussion, because in all my academic writing, I have avoided footnotes, preferring instead to write internal citations, endnotes, or bibliographical essays. Most book publishers loathe footnotes because of their cost and typographic ugliness. Much of the time, you c...

It's probably a permissions issue. To run an application from a user account, install the app while IN the user account. Admin accounts are mainly used for trouble-shooting.

You can do that already. See Preferences: Fonts and Colors to change the color of the cards. Then down below, change the Pin Opacity to Low.

LL, thanks for the notes on buying Mac models. There's two ways to think about product cycles. If you buy a new model, it may not be ready for market and you'll spend time and money correcting its flaws. But it feels awful to spend dollars and then a few weeks later, a new model is out with two proc...

Keith, that's a great review and I also enjoyed your response, which was very courtly, even to old George the Flea. He's a great enthusiast for Avenir and tends to snipe a bit at Scriv, but he admits he hasn't used it much. I'm using Scriv mainly as a writer, but as a long-time teacher of writing, I...

But you can just select the contents of your e-mail and drag it into Scrivener that way... Or select the contents of the e-mail and use the Services: Scrivener menu, which lets you Create New Clipping from Selection . This works for me in Entourage. The Services menu is hiding under the Entourage m...

When I earned a doctorate, written and oral fluency was required in German, French, and Latin or Greek. Later I picked up Spanish and Italian. Today the requirement is reading knowledge of two languages other than English. As a third language, we might require computer literacy!

Re: Thanks, Keith

I thought when you put a text file in it automatically became a corkboard card (and visa versa). If you click on the Inspector button, you'll see in the upper right frame a box titled "Synopsis" That is a thumbnail of the Corkboard card. Just write there a few words or lines to summarize ...

OK, the subject is workflow. Does anyone else think that's an ugly word? I looked it up in Wikipedia and apparently it comes from IT, those folks who have no way with words and gave us such gems as input, output, throughput, and default, which used to mean no action taken, or not showing up to play,...

We have discussed this issue a lot in the forum. Scrivener is not a research database; it's a drafting tool. To store PDFs you ought to look into using Papers, Sente, or Skim; for URLs I recommend DevonNote or any of the other DevonThink products.

I just want to make clear that I listed those other programs to indicate that comparison software is already available. In my view, there is no need to add this function to Scrivener. TextWrangler does it for free.
