Re: Question about Custom Metadata

If you do need some kind of “global text” concept, the best tool for the job is the <$include> tag, which injects the main text content of one item into the place where you type in the tag. Either type that in and create an internal document link to the other binder item with the text, or specify th...

Re: Viewing the Format style applied to text

I do not know how people end up with phantom bullet formatting like that, I wish I did—but I suspect it has something to do with pasting text in from Web sites or Word. However it gets that way, the easiest way to clear it is to select large chunks of text at once and use the Format ▸ Lists ▸ None c...

Re: Scrivener + Scapple ... writing and mapping on the same application

Even if every note had a “Scapple board” tab in the inspector in the same sense that it had a “Notes” tab, that still would not solve the main problems with smashing two different programs together into the same window (see point one). I think the best answer is still to use Bookmarks—which does jus...

Re: Scrivener is very slow to toggle in the binder

Well that's a good sign. It means you file system isn't about to collapse (extreme slowness loading and saving thing is a red flag of a drive in need of repair), and there probably aren't any hardware issues to worry about either. But before getting too carried away with trying to figure out if ther...

Re: Scriv 3 Manual

Hmm, it’s maybe a little messy looking—and perhaps needlessly so, as I don’t know how important the revision number is in the long run. Normally the software has the latest version, and it is as simple as that. It is in fact fairly rare that I’ll need to upload an update in between releases. This is...

Re: Are the old "Text Bookmarks" Gone?

One follow-up question: Is there any way to eliminate the word “Comment” at the beginning of each comment? I’m afraid not. The pane is shared by footnotes as well, and while colour may serve as an indicator for type, it isn’t reliable since all of the colours can be changed. I’ll give some thought ...

Re: Are the old "Text Bookmarks" Gone?

Yes, from the What’s New appendix of the user manual: Text Bookmark Feature Removed The Text Bookmark feature, which allowed for one to simple markings into the text and then access those markings from a menu in the header bar, has been removed. The Comments & Footnotes inspector tab is more tha...

That was fixed in the 3.0.1 revision. Make sure to use the latest PDF when reporting flaws. Thanks!

Re: Scrivener is very slow to toggle in the binder

I would give this a try in a test Mac account—just make an account on your Mac with standard settings—run Scrivener in there, create a tutorial with it on the same disk you normally work on, and see if the situation improves. That would at least narrow down whether the problem is hardware or configu...

Re: Footnote - indented block quotes & compile

The only special thing you would need to be aware of is the Include styles information in exported file checkbox, at the bottom of the Styles format compile pane. That is on by default however, and of course if you have it disabled then all styles will be stripped out, not just those in footnotes. O...

Re: Composition mode -- cursor should be keystroke-ready immediately

Yeah I use Typinator as well, never seen it cause issues like that; should be fine. Another batch of potential factors: the settings in Behaviors: Composition Mode, particularly the fade and Spaces mode, but maybe even how the dock is managed. Try toggling those, and if you’re using any virtual desk...

Re: Composition mode -- cursor should be keystroke-ready immediately

Hmm, do you have any kind of macOS level auto-correction or date detection type stuff going on, anything that might modify how the text editor works at a basic level? I’m sure you’d be seeing it with other examples, but with all of these examples involving the kind of things Apple might scan for, it...

Re: Indenting bullets on iPhone?

To be fair I wouldn’t even call the bullet tool on the Mac an outliner . All of a Scrivener project itself, on the other hand—the way you can organise topical headings into structure and nest items within other items—yes, that’s an outline, though some find friction toward the concept of using it th...

Re: Indenting bullets on iPhone?

I haven’t heard anything to suggest that much has changed with Apple’s text engine with regards to either tab stops or bullets (the latter of which depends upon the former) in iOS 11. Perhaps we’ll see some better news next summer, but I wouldn’t hold my breath, it’ll probably just be a new font for...

Re: Page Breaks

I’m not quite following what it is you are looking for, it sounds like you are saying that you need to use a slightly different spacing model for headings than our built-in format uses in the manuscript Formats? I.e. in our default setup for the Novel template, folders are set up to generate chapter...
