Re: from Latex to Scrivener

That’s a good question, and one that has a few different answers, depending on exactly how you would like to approach using Scrivener. I don’t believe it has been asked yet in the context of Scrivener 3, which changes things considerably for the better for those working in some form of markup. While...

Re: Better support for story threads

Ability to filter on one or more labels in the binder, outliner and corkboard. You should be able to select from the set of labels and then only see documents with that label. Other than searching in the binder, which you already mentioned, as well as saved search collections and the ability to vie...

Re: How to compile to rtf with headers

If the contest wants RTF, then I wouldn’t recommend using Pages. The best free alternative for Mac is LibreOffice.

Re: Not erasable line break  ?

That shouldn’t have any bearing on how the document compiles to be clear—it is nothing to worry about if that is your main concern. These are merely decorative separators inserted between files to help you find where one stops and the next begins. In this case, you’re looking at the divider style be...

Re: Just upgraded - Mac locking up

You mentioned that if you kill the process the Mac still doesn’t recover—that more likely indicates a deeper problem than the software that triggered it. Scrivener might be the catalyst, but in theory a normal Cocoa level program won’t hard crash the system or even destabilise it. It usually takes d...

Re: any font suggestions for a serif typeface that will display properly on desktop and iOS?

It’s also worth mention that you can install fonts directly into Scrivener as well. You do not need third-party tools to expand available fonts. Try AirDropping the Bembo font to your device from the Mac, and open it with Scrivener. Even when doing that, there are a some fonts here and there that ha...

Re: Not erasable line break  ?

I can’t reproduce this problem. If I put my cursor in an empty line at the top of a Scrivenings chunk and hit the forward-delete key, the carriage return after the cursor is removed. I naturally cannot delete to the left with the normal delete key, because to the left of the cursor is a protected di...

Re: Add Comments to Unconnected Words

That wouldn’t be possible given how comments work, nor would it be compatible with how any other program works with comments that I’m aware of. But, one doesn’t really need special features to do things like this. How I would approach this problem is with the highlight tool. http://www.literatureand...

Re: Do I need to save multiple Bak files?

To make sure we’re on the same page, you are referring to a file name like, “The Name of My Project.bak2.zip”? If so, it sounds like you might be working directly inside your backup folder? You wouldn’t ordinarily encounter “bak” files on a regular basis, and by default the software would keep them ...

Re: Font Override for Main Editor

Here is one previous discussion on that matter . In short: ⋅  You can do this with actual text colour settings. The compiler can strip colour out of text, but it does make it a little more awkward to do quick printouts for proofing and copy and paste with. ⋅  Since this is a full...

Re: Problems about the inserted picture size and layout in compiled word file

The best way to do this is to figure out the widest your images should be in points, given the intended print settings, and then never exceed that. For example, a typical US Letter with 1" left/right margins (as it looks like you’re using) would be 612 points wide as paper, and minus the margin...

Re: editing/go back to previous section

Sorry, I should have explained which commands these are. ⌘G is of course “Find Next”, which can be used even when the ⌘F Find panel is closed. ⌘E is a handy shortcut to know about, it loads the selected text into the Find panel without opening the panel. Thus what you’re doing is telling search to g...

Re: editing/go back to previous section

It would be very difficult for a computer to know which parts of what you described are meaningful, and which parts are simply navigation points generated by the act of editing. For example, when are typing in text at the bottom of the file, the cursor is creeping along from one index point to the n...

Re: Use of keywords to help integrate interviews into copy within Scrivener

My approach would be a combination of the actual Keywords feature, to flag broader sections of text as containing certain topics, with the Styles feature to do the actual marking of text. Here is a simple test of the idea: ⋅  Select a phrase of text in the editor, and pop open the Styles p...

Re: Issue with auto complete in upgrade to Scriv 3

It could be in Scrivener 2 you changed a setting that makes these offer suggestions as soon as you type in the letters. By default you have to manually request completion. To adjust that, go into the Corrections preference pane and disable In script mode only , with Suggest completions you type set ...
