Scrivener used by Rian Johnson to write Star Wars: The Last Jedi

I was at a WGA screening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi today (Dec.17) and writer/director Rian Johnson did a Q & A afterwards. One question was about how as a writer Rian had chosen to make a particular controversial plot decision. They asked if he developed the idea, or if it was a directive from...

Re: iPhone format brush

Yes, I know what the brush does, I just had trouble finding it.

Turns out its tucked off-screen in the keyboard toolbar. Thanks for the effort, though.

iPhone format brush

I want to change a font on Scrivener iPhone. What has become of the format brush? Tutorial says to click in the text of the editor window and tool bar will change and reveal format brush. It does change, but no brush.

How do I change fonts on the iPhone?

Thanks!

Re: The ability to password protect individual projects

Since .scriv files on the Mac are packages, password protecting them isn't really an effective security measure. Anyone with a little motivation and knowledge would just open the package and look at the RTF files inside without even opening Scrivener. If you're concerned about the security or privac...

Re: Screenplay step-outline - Can you show a runtime for scenes?

If you can't get it sorted out to your satisfaction, here's a simpler solution.

I know that I tend to write scenes that are 2-3 pages long. (A few may be 1 page, but mostly, 2-3 pages.) So I limit myself to 48 scenes in my first draft, which makes my draft fall between 96-120 pages.

Re: Best principles for brainstorming highly ambiguous and complex project

There's an interesting new iPad app called IdeaBoost that might be worth looking into.

Also, DevonThink. This is kind of like your own personal Evernote. It lets you capture, tag and file every idea you have. Fo;ks use it for very complex projects.

Also a KM user here.

Could you please post a link to the macro palette you made for Scrivener? It would saveme the trouble of reverse engineering it.

Re: New writing font for monospace lovers...

Just in case any screenwriters are reading this, you need to use a 12-point, 10-pitch mono font for screenplays. Otherwise, your page count will be off.

Re: [JH] Scriptwriting Mode

Yeah, but L&L has such a small sample size for screenwriters, I don't want them getting the idea that your preferences represent the market at large. Page breaks and page count are features that the majority of screenwriters want and need.

Re: [JH] Scriptwriting Mode

There are things you don't need when writing a screenplay: scene numbers, page numbers and page breaks. Some will disagree about the last one - the ideal writing environment is obviously not the same for everyone. I disagree. For me (and I think the majority of working screenwriters), page breaks a...

Re: Creating a Keyboard Shortcut for Open in Copyholder

Buy Keyboard Maestro . It's a macro program for OSX, and I find it essential for making the most out of Scrivener. In addition to simple keystroke aliases, it can do complex, multiple-step procedures. KM can also be triggered by folder activity like Hazel, by typing shortcuts like TextExpander, or b...

A-list Screenwriters call out Scrivener flaws at AFF 2017 event.

Just a heads up, maybe someone from L&L should reach out to Craig Mazin and John August. In episode 326 of Scriptnotes (their wildly popular screenwriting podcast) they held a live 3-page challenge at the 2017 Austin Film Festival. This is an event where they critique three pages from a listener...

Re: Feedback Wanted: How do you structure your Scriv projects?

When I write screenplays in Scrivener, I often have a strict folder hierarchy even past the scene level. I'll sometimes have a folder representing a scene, and several text documents representing functional parts of a scene (what writers call "beats.") This allows me to address the scene i...

Re: SCRIVENER FOR IPHONE & IPAD IMPORTANT FEATURE

You might have better luck using OmniFocus . If you're not familiar with it, OF is a task manager based on Getting Things Done (GTD.) Omni has versions for Mac, iPhone and iPad. They all have a fast-open notepad for capturing ideas, that also has many options for filing or categorizing the informati...

Binder & Splitting

I hope Scrivener iPad has a Binder, and that Splitting makes the cut. One of the great pleasures of using Scrivener is blasting out a long text document about some aspect of the project, then splitting it into ideas (often renaming with selection), and organizing the ideas into the Binder. It would ...
