Re: Using my scriv. App on husband’s iPad

Thanks so much! Once I figured out how to log out it was a piece of cake! Now I hope I can get it to sync with Dropbox! You'll need to install the Dropbox app on the iPad, and make sure it's logged in to your account. Then you'll need to make sure that the iPad's copy of Scrivener is configured to ...

Re: Understanding "Section Break"

For all the "printable" output formats (print, PDF, .docx, etc.) that item reads "Page Break" instead. But ebooks really don't have page breaks, so it's called a section break. You can read all about exactly what it does in each output format in the manual under 24.4.3 Separator...

Re: Syncing to Office 365

If you're sharing the Scrivener project, the same caveats apply to Office 365 as to any other file sharing service: https://scrivener.tenderapp.com/help/kb/cloud-syncing/using-scrivener-with-cloud-sync-services If your editor doesn't use Scrivener, you may want the Sync with External Folder function...

Re: Footnotes when compiling to PDF

I just deleted a number of spam posts from this thread. These were typically the only post from that user, with a single line about the importance of footnotes and a link to a completely unrelated web site. It's possible that some of these actually reflected real user questions. If so, and I deleted...

Re: Shortcut for using Dragon (DNS) and Scrivener

The "official" way to edit a Scrivener project using third party tools is via the Sync with External Folder feature. The external folder is linked to your project so that Scrivener knows which file is which, but it's still a separate entity.

Re: Shortcut for using Dragon (DNS) and Scrivener

What is the easiest way to find out what the filename of a particular document in the Windows version of Scrivener? I've been poking around in Scrivener for a year or two and have not found a method to do this. The filename is quite elusive! Thanks! The .scrivx file is a master index of the project...

Re: Verifying integrity of cloud backups

I just want to second Ioa's advice about the difference between "backup" and "synchronization." A true backup service makes it nearly impossible to overwrite your data by mistake. A synchronization service *deliberately* does exactly that.

Re: Handwriting recognition

Remember that Steve Jobs hated the Newton. Killing it was one of the first things he did when re-hired as CEO. OTOH, he primarily hated it because it was clunky. The technology may have advanced enough to overcome that. But if there's a skunk works working on handwriting recognition at Apple, I woul...

Re: Compatibility of Scrivener on Win10 with MS OneDrive?

Terminology aside... Scrivener expects that the entire contents of the project is stored locally and is available "on demand," regardless of connectivity. (The exception being research files stored as aliases -- Scrivener should be able to fail gracefully if an alias fails to resolve.) Any...

Re: Italics vanish at font change

For future reference, it's not a bad idea to test a formatting change like this on a single document before applying it project wide. It's also never a bad idea to have an extra backup before making big changes, which you can create with the File -> Backup -> Backup Now command.

Re: iOS 11 and DropBox Syncing Issues

Thank you @lunk ... I do know what syncing is. If what you‘re saying were to be the case, then the two - on iPad vs in Dropbox should not be separated. That is very misleading and could cause confusion. I just did my test, and got synchronization errors when opening and closing the project when not...

Re: iOS 11 and DropBox Syncing Issues

I had this issue too, but was able to resolve! On the Home screen where all of your projects are listed, you might notice that the left navigation pane separates projects saved to your iPad vs. projects saved to Dropbox. DropBox syncing seems to only work for project saved to Dropbox! To resolve th...

Re: Formatting displayed incorrectly in Kindle KF8/Mobi files when side-loaded onto iPhone

I don't see this problem with files that were not created in Scrivener, no matter how they are loaded into the Kindle app, so doesn't that suggest it's a problem with the files compiled by Scrivener? Scrivener creates an ePub file. Then it invokes Amazon software to create a mobi file, which is the...

If the Outline view is blank, move up to a higher level in the Binder. The "Outline" for a single document will always be blank: there aren't any sub-documents to show.

Although not being discussed in this thread but equally important, I do the same for the Optimize Storage feature at the same path but at the bottom of panel–– Optimize Mac Storage . Goodness yes! Optimize Mac Storage is a data debacle waiting to happen. For the uninitiated, that feature allows Mac...
