Re: Images for Kindle Fire HD Come Out Small

Thanks, looks like I managed to figure out what to do. As you advised, I’m now loading images with 300 dpi resolution (with the <$img:...> reference method vs. direct in-line paste that I used to do before) and setting the width to 1000 pixels, although the real image width is 600. Playing with the ...

Images for Kindle Fire HD Come Out Small

Hi all, I've been very successfully formatting my books with Scrivener for over a year now. My children books include a ton of images, and they've been displaying well when I set them as JPG 450 x 550 pixels, 72 dpi. Today I decided to see one of my books on my wife's Kindle Fire HD. And the images ...

New Scrivener Review

Hi guys, I’ve been quiet here for a while, but I’ve been using Scrivener since 2005. Just wrote a review here:

http://www.thebookdesigner.com/2011/08/ ... r-writers/

TheBookDesigner is a popular site with lots of traffic. Hope it helps. Love the program!

Austin.

Re: iPad as a writing/research tool

I just wrote my first short story on the ipad, using the pages app. It felt very weird to use something other than Scrivener. For close to 3 yrs, I have been using Scrivener for any sort of writing, from blog posts to scientific papers. The thing that bothered me the most was the lack of Typewriter...

Re: kindle for reading or ipad???

Contrary to the overall consensus here, I went with the iPad for reading. I spend lots of time in the evenings putting kids to bed, and in that situation iPad is irreplaceable for reading or (quiet) writing. I use iBooks and Kindle app to read my books, preferring iBooks. Before this, I used to read...

Re: iPad as a writing/research tool

Very nice review, Druid. I just bought both programs - to encourage the developers! It's relatively easy to import documents into the "MWN": via their website. A bit cumbersome - I guess it's easy to forget to synch the website and Scrivener, - but workable. I've just put the beginning of ...

Re: Mozy or iDisk or DropBox .... ?

I just started a backup to Mozy, selecting just my Scrivener files (new user...just a few files) and it appears to be going on and on backing up everything on the thing...I unselected all the sets. What's the deal? Did you also unselect all the "files" and "folders" you don't ne...

Re: iPad as a writing/research tool

After several days of trial, I can quite happily write on iPad. I like the full screen Pages mode. The touch keyboard on the screen doesn't bother me. It makes me think more as I write, which must be a good thing. Of course, I miss all the comfort of Scrivener, so I keep running back to my laptop fo...

Re: Scribbler™ for iPhone -- Early Look

It works very well for me. Takes a while to get used to the interface, but the app shows promise.

I'm a bit annoyed with the bright button that won't disappear in the full screen mode, and with two rows of the same buttons in browser view, but other than that, I find the app highly usable.

Re: I'm finally moving on up...best way to install Leopard?

I use http://www.mozy.com for backups. It does everything in the background. Never really had to restore, but I tried just to check and it was easy. My "backup" 2-gig drive failed even before my iMac's did, just so you understand my reasons. As for the Leo installation, the only reason I d...

Re: iWork AND Office on the same Mac?

My company has the same benefit, and I decided to pass for now. Pretty much for the reasons mamster mentions... I did buy the latest version of the office for windows, to run it under Parallels, which I used the grand total of one time after I installed it and admired the ribbons. I haven't opened i...

Re: Scrivener 1.12 beta 1 now available for testing

Keith, my auto-save is set for 2 seconds. I always watch for the "dirty flag" to disappear before doing something with the file. It has only happened when transferring a zipped project from a G4 Powerbook to an Intel iMac. I'll keep watching my habits to understand if it's me or the progra...

Re: Scrivener 1.12 beta 1 now available for testing

Hi, I recently noticed this thing with 1.12: when I zip my Scrivener file using the "compress file" command in the Finder, all the text in the latest Scrivener document (text doc within a Scrivener folder) is gone. All other text attributes -- notes, label, status, etc. -- appear to be OK....

Re: On line storage

Congrats. A virtual beer on me. 50 gig is cool, but Adrive has 50 as maximum, free for the beta period only and no Mac client at least last time I saw it, at least none for Safari. I'm uploading my 200 Gigs to Mozy as we speak :? As I move to a new country every 2-4 years I'm also paranoid about los...

Re: Boris Akunin - Fandorin/Pelagia

Yep, I used to read a lot of Akunin in Russian, since it's my native tongue. I like most of his books, some of them are quite memorable. He cleverly plays with genre and style, and in one book he compares himself to Jack the Ripper, because of what he does to different genres. I find him interesting...
