Re: Activation issue attempting to use both Version 2 and Version 3

Just to confirm, I too have the initial problem with both versions of Scrivener (2 &3) requiring product activation on first start-up. I haven't tried the fix yet, but I can probably live with it for now, and hope to migrate fully to 3 fairly soon.

Re: Insert page break between scenes without also adding them as chapters in the table of contents

Update: manually adding page breaks won't work either, because that also leads to the scene names being added to the table of contents.

Insert page break between scenes without also adding them as chapters in the table of contents

I have a novel written in Scriv2 which is has chapter folders, and in each of those there is a series of scenes. I want to insert section / page breaks between each scene for this novel, and have never needed to before. (The reason is that there are alternating narrators in this book, and I think su...

Re: Is it safe to delete crud in 'group containers' folder

Never mind - think I have an answer: 'Copied' is a clipboard manager I have on my mac, and it's made by 'Udoncode'. So that folder clearly relates to that app and not to scrivener. The reason the link to .scriv files is showing up is because so much of my cutting and pasting is done in Scrivener. I ...

Is it safe to delete crud in 'group containers' folder

I needed to do a search for a Scrivener file today, so I used EasyFind to search my SSD for .scriv files. It came back with nearly 2k entries, the vast majority of which appear to be either support documents or crud that could be deleted. They are all in the user~Library~Group Containers~3DZ6694B2C....

Re: Chapter numbers as digits (1), not words (one)

Thanks - that answers it. I feared it would be something surprisingly simple!

Chapter numbers as digits (1), not words (one)

Whenever I create chapter headings during compile the numbering always comes out with words, eg: chapter one, chapter two. I'm sure it should be the easiest thing in the world to change this to: chapter 1; chapter 2. But for some reason (probably basic stupidity) I can't figure out how it's done. Ca...

How to control hyphenation

My Kindle Paperwhite doesn't hyphenate (break) words at the end of a line. I've always taken this for granted, and assumed it wasn't something I needed to consider when compiling. But I've just noticed that the Kindle Previewer on my Mac, which is emulating the Kindle Fire, does hyphenate. So, this ...

Re: Scrivener corrupted?

Thanks asirainira - I was having a similar issue with fonts changing for no apparent reason. Even went so far as editing the epub file in Calibre and examining the html etc - and there was nothing in the code to show why the font was changing erratically throughout the epub version. But this simple ...

Re: Find and replace on paragraph returns

Thanks Amber - I guess after 20 years using a Mac, and nearly ten years using Scrivener, I should have figured that one out by now! Still, there's always something more to learn.

Thanks again for the speedy response.

Find and replace on paragraph returns

Is there any way in Scrivener to do a find all and replace on paragraph returns? I want to turn all single para returns into double returns, and vice versa. This is easy in a word processor such as Word, where you can do a find and replace for special characters such as a para return. But it doesn't...

Re: Scrivener for iOS - When?

Not sure if this is the right place to raise this, but is there any advance information on how syncing will work between Scriv on the mac and on iOS? For example, will it use iCloud, Dropbox, an inbuilt sync function? I'm currently reviewing my sync strategy, and it would be useful to know - as I'll...

Re: Compile to Word and Word templates

Thanks Mr X - I'll take a look at that in depth. In the meantime, I've found a quick fix that might help others. Essentially, the problem was twofold: 1) I don't understand how to use Word's stylesheets properly 2) Compiles from Scriv were opening in Word with an unfamiliar stylesheet quick view (th...
