Re: Most Serious Flaw in Scrivener

Thank you all immensely. The problem is accidental three finger dragging when my thumb hits the trackpad. It never, ever, occurred to me to look for trackpad settings (and this is a crucial one) in the Accessibility panel and indeed in a button called Trackpad Options. My two finder scrolling is the...

Most Serious Flaw in Scrivener

I love Scrivener and strongly recommend it to others. However, it has one serious problem that I in fact raised perhaps a year ago and was told that nothing could be done about it. However, I think it is so serious, as the only serious flaw in what is otherwise excellent program, that it should be c...

Can't import existing files

I suddenly find that I can't import existing files into Scrivener. When I click on this from the gear in the bottom left in takes me my directories but all files are greyed out.

Images extend past right margin in Word

I have a long manuscript with many figures (approximately 170). I create all these Figures in InDesign, convert them to Tiffs (at present 300 dpi with a width of 8.9 inches). I bring the Figures into Scrivener by picking them from an Artwork file in the Finder and moving them to to place in Scrivene...

Re: lock binder order to prevent accidental reordering

I would like to strongly support this. I use a magic trackpad and scroll up and down the binder trying to find something. All of sudden something gets picked up and plopped down somewhere else. The only way I know to fix this is by opening a backup (glad that Scrivener does a good job with backups) ...

Provide good collection of icons for custom use

This is minor, but I think quite easy to do for the next release. I use icons for the documents in the binder a LOT so that I can immediately see different kinds of documents -- Figures, text, email, notes, etc. etc. At present I scrounge around for icons on the web. It would be really useful if Scr...

Re: Placeholder Tags

Thank you very much. One slight trick that might make using this easier and less prone to error. The place where a number is actually assigned is usually a Scrivener document of it's own: either a chapter heading for a Figure. Put the code that generates the number with the Figure (or chapter)in the...

Placeholder Tags

For me the most difficult thing about Scrivener is Forward References with Placeholder tags. I use templates for numbering Figures and Chapters. However when I run off a new version of a book I frequently find that would should be Chapter 23 is numbered Chapter 12 (though in its correct order). Basi...

Making Figure and Chapter Numbers in Scrivener

This is a set of instructions I wrote for my students showing how to have Scrivener automatically number figures in a paper, and figures in each chapter of a book. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3327733/Goodwin%20Instructions%20Distribute/Scrivener%20Figure%20&%20Chapter%20Numbering.pdf Fin...

Transferring Styles from Scrivener to Word Processor

Here's a simple way to transfer Style Formatting from Scrivener to a Word Processor such as Nisus or Word. Basically add tags to paragraphs you want marked with a particular style, such as Heading 1, Heading 2, Figure Caption etc. Scrivener doesn't do real styles. These you can create and modify in ...

Bookmarks Don't appear in menu unless document being read

I'm working on large project a book. I want to use Bookmarks to get to a particular place in the document. However, when I go to View -> Text Bookmarks the menu is empty unless I am on the page where the bookmark is (which eliminates the usefulness of using bookmarks to go quickly somewhere in a lar...

Eliminate Dates etc. in Draft Compile

When I compile a long piece of work by selecting Draft the output has metadata about each file, such as its date, in the midst of the text. If I select everything and Compile Selection this does not happen. I don't want this. How do I get rid of it. I looked through al the options in the Compile dia...

Preset that will color text but leave Bold etc. in place

I find it VERY useful to color text for highlighting as I read and to define Styles such as Heading and Block Quote that I can immediately find in Nisus when I open compiled file. However, I can't find to define a present that will color text (blue for example) but leave other character formatting s...
