Re: All Work Lost (with Screenshot)

Sorry, Lunk, but this is poppycock. With care, there's nothing intrinsic to Windows or PCs that would cause this to be true. It’s a general observation based on a number of years watching what is happening with both my own and colleagues’ computers. Starting takes longer and longer, sudden freezes ...

Re: All Work Lost (with Screenshot)

It is really not fair to blame Scrivener for faulty hardware. Every program you use may experience the same issues on a computer like that. Maybe you should fix that first.

Re: Can we have "Check spelling as you type" Main Toolbar Action Button, please?

Interesting, I’ve always just used the stepwise spell check window at that point. I don’t like markings all over the text while I’m writing either, but when I’m ready to proof it, I open the window and go through each misspelling one by one. Personally I find it a better interface than having to po...

Re: Can we have "Check spelling as you type" Main Toolbar Action Button, please?

Offering hope from the Dark... er, Mac side here: In Mac Scriv 2, I remember this operating as the Windows users describe, but in Mac Scrivener 3.0.3, this is a menu item--specifically, Edit > Check Spelling and Grammar > Check Spelling While Typing . The Preferences item only controls whether this...

Re: Extensive edits lost

Wow! I bought scrivener a while ago ... set it aside due to my 8 AM- 9PM day job. When I get a chunk of time off (like now) I want to learn about use of scrivener and hopefully write. Reading about folks losing their work is scary. Reading the responses and trying to determine what it means is too....

Re: Can we have "Check spelling as you type" Main Toolbar Action Button, please?

Perhaps this request (which requires making a custom icon at least) would be more compelling if people could describe the common scenario in which one needs regularly to switch between these modes . Here's my use case. When I'm in drafting mode, say writing the first draft of a scene, I don't want ...

Re: Can we have "Check spelling as you type" Main Toolbar Action Button, please?

The "Check Spelling As You Type" preference has always been for me a set it and forget it thing. It is not something I can imagine wanting to toggle on and off frequently. (In fact, I can say with some confidence that I have never once adjusted this setting at all.) Perhaps this request (...

Yup, there always will be people, who will take the blue pill, and then there are those who value freedom above all.

No, for this one you can't.

Re: Extensive edits lost

I must say I'm absolutely stunned by the sheer numbers of people who come on this forum to say that Scrivener has somehow eaten their work, and that the responses are so mild, like "well, find your backups" --- as if it was perfectly normal for a program to lose one's work! Hello??!! It's...

It looks like no one agrees with your statement. The price IS fair. You don't like it? You can always pay more for other software.

Re: Crashing and Just Not Working

Try to right click on the Scrivener icon and choose "Run as administrator." See what happens. I have a lot of problems with the last Windows 10 update. So, I had to uninstall it and forbid it's installation until Microsoft fixed it. In my case, it wasn't Scrivener's fault, but Windows. Goo...

Re: newest windows update doesn't work

Windows 10 Home 1709

The 1.9.8.0 version takes much longer to open. A project that use to open instantaneously, now takes precisely 45 seconds. Another one that used to open in 2-3 seconds now takes a minute and a half. Otherwise, I don't experience any other issues.

Something is definitely wrong.

Is the session's target "Automatically calculate from draft deadline" working? Because it doesn't work for me.

Re: [Suggestion] For Scrivener – only for the "modern" UI

I can count less than ten people, in this forum, who complain about the new design. The silent majority likes it but keeps it quiet so not to offend someone. I love it. I find the old one clumsy, archaic and very distracting. t That being said, I don't mind if there is an option to switch to the old...
