Re: All Work Lost (with Screenshot)

I did... Lots of work last night and today on the computer. Well, not a lot of work so much as a lot of searching and figuring. I haven't responded yet, because I don't know if the crash problem has been solved but... Well, let's talk about Scrivener first. I have been ctrl-s saving a LOT since the...

Re: All Work Lost (with Screenshot)

Win PCs often start getting serious problems when they are three years old. Sometimes starting all over, format the disk and install a fresh up-to-date copy of Windows and all your other software, might make things better for a while, but PCs have a rather short active life span. Sorry, Lunk, but t...

Re: All Work Lost (with Screenshot)

Thanks--I activated backup-on-save earlier, so that should help with some of the frustration. I'll increase the auto-save times, too. I didn't realize that that could be part of the problem. Do you think there's any way to recover the 254-character blank file at this point, or is that a lost cause?...

Re: Instructions for Restore

You've posted this in the Windows Beta forum, so I'm assuming you're working in Windows Beta Scrivener. It sounds to me like the backups you're trying to access may be zipped. If that's the case, first thing you need to do is extract the files. In Windows 7 (that's what I have), it would be right cl...

Re: Can we have "Check spelling as you type" Main Toolbar Action Button, please?

Perhaps this request (which requires making a custom icon at least) would be more compelling if people could describe the common scenario in which one needs regularly to switch between these modes . Here's my use case. When I'm in drafting mode, say writing the first draft of a scene, I don't want ...

Re: Label Colours Not Working

Hi Paula, I know you just came here to ask about label colors, but we've just had some posters who lost data while syncing and didn't have adequate backups, so I am now going to overload you with some background on my opinion of best practices for syncing and backing up Scrivener projects. FYI, so y...

Re: Extensive edits lost

JimRac - good points. If a project is broken during a botched sync, is it just the Binder (the XML file) that is actually corrupted? If so, even damaged projects can be re-constructed by going into the project folders and retrieving the RTF text files. It's a pain, but doable. While I see what you ...

Re: Extensive edits lost

I must say I'm absolutely stunned by the sheer numbers of people who come on this forum to say that Scrivener has somehow eaten their work, and that the responses are so mild, like "well, find your backups" --- as if it was perfectly normal for a program to lose one's work! Hello??!! It's...

Find your zipped backups. That’s your priority.

Re: Label Colours Not Working

There is a setting for this in the View menu, perhaps you've inadvertently turned it off. View > Use Label Color In > Binder. Make sure that is turned on/checked. On an unrelated but important topic: Syncing & sharing projects is inherently risky. Now that you are syncing to DropBox, where are y...

Re: can't move outside folders into "Manuscript" /Draft?

EDIT: I think I found the problem. It really is about the pictures or other inserted files. I remember something about it vaguely from the tutorial saying that you can insert pics in your research folder but not in your manuscript -.- It just didn't work work me first time I tried removing the pdf ...

Re: (PISSED) New Scrivener 3 Prices/Discounts of Old and New Users -- Seriously???

Your post contains the words 'scum' and 'trashiest' and 'jerkoff'. It is the post of a hothead. The fact that you don't know this is alarming, considering you're a writer. The pricing is so straightforward, not sure how you could misunderstand it. https://www.literatureandlatte.com/store/scrivener?t...

Re: Spelling on/off button in toolbar

If you mean run the spell check, you can add that button to the toolbar.

Customizing the toolbars is under the Tools menu, I think.

@Scribhneoir: Scrivener for Windows v3 is in a Beta testing stage and can be downloaded from the Beta testing forum : https://www.literatureandlatte.com/web/forum/viewforum.php?f=57 Thanks, but I'm not interested in the Beta version. Any word on when v3 for Windows will be out of Beta? L&L's go...

Re: Remove indents in Document Note section

You know how you use the Preset Selector in the formatting toolbar or Format > Formatting > Apply Preset to change the format and indents of text in the editor? That will also work in the Inspector's Document Notes field. Inside the Document Notes, put the cursor on the paragraph you want to change,...
