Re: Opening/Editing Files In Bbedit

... I can't find any good statistics on this, but I don't think anyone can seriously argue that most writers are using Markdown or similar. To your average person, text with asterisks dotted through it is far more unwieldy than simple formatting. I feel pretty confident in saying that the majority ...

Aeon on IOS

Aeon have just announced a new iOS version. It syncs with the Desktop via iCloud and (better news) Dropbox. I use Aeon both for the structuring of my history of medicine projects (obvious uses there) and for project management of them. I think the iOS version is going to be extremely useful for both...

Good thoughts about iThoughts

I've used iThoughts for quite a while; my Scapple lieutenant (it reads Scapple files) for iPad.

It suddenly got even better this week as it now has a very nice outline feature.

Re: Coping and Pasting Binder folders/scenes/items

Wow. Not one single bit of help. One word. NEVER BUY SCRIVENER. IT'S A WASTE OF VALUABLE TIME AND MONEY. Au Contraire - I couldn't make my living if it wasn't for Scrivener, and for many others it makes life easier, but as you seem to have deleted your query after just a few hours, none of us can n...

I'm really surprised that nobody seems to have suggested that you seek out some editorial help. [Full disclosure: I am a freelance editor, so I may be biased as to the benefits. ] Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes can do a world of good when you hit a point with a project that you're overwhelme...

Re: Turning 400,000 words of notes into a non-fiction book.

A few years ago I finally hit on the winning combination of analogue A3 sheets and Scapple daily; a larger and very organic overview in Tinderbox; and - informed by all of these - what Abbott calls writing (and linking) `mini-analyses' in Scrivener. (Abbott's *Digital Paper* is intended for graduat...

Re: Turning 400,000 words of notes into a non-fiction book.

I fall into the "write it from scratch" group. What you have been doing so far is *research.* Research is a different task, requiring a different mental approach. It is not at all surprising for the research to total many more words than the book's target length. I also agree with the &qu...

Re: for Scapple users

I get the impression that .... I don’t. To me he/she sounds more like a rather young users, thinking there is a ”best way” to do things in life. A belief most of us more elderly users have long since let go of. Life just IS. Absolutely: I've just bought a new car, which way should I drive? Should I...

Re: Scapple and other platforms (iOS, Windows etc)

Ha! I finally found the forum for this topic :D I am foaming at the mouth for Scapple on iOS. Ditto on all previous requests. Just saying  I found a really nice work-around: Scrivener on my MBA with Scapple on my iPad Pro via a Duet link. Sadly my MBA is now dying, but it was fun while it las...

Re: Bibliographic workflow within scrivener...

Here's how I look at it. Writing is a project based task. Eventually every Scrivener document will be done or abandoned. Anything which should have a lifespan beyond a particular project shouldn't be in a project document. Reference management is part of the infrastructure. (I regularly cite source...

Re: Mechanical, Dongle-free Bluetooth Keyboard?

When you write "mechanical", Dr D, do you mean "really mechanical" (i.e. butterfly switches etc), or just "not on glass"? The reason I ask is that I have paired my iPad pro with a Brydge. The Brydge is mechanical in the way that many keyboards are now mechanical, so pe...

Mechanical, Dongle-free Bluetooth Keyboard?

I've almost entirely migrated to using Scrivener on my iPad Pro - this was at one time an experiment, and is now a necessity as my MacBook Air is dying and I cannot afford anything like the new sterling-devalued prices. So far I am surprised not to feel more of a loss - indeed in some ways I prefer ...

Re: New iPad Pro; Resolution, Choose 9.7” or 10.5”?

I am doing what Rdale guessed: using Duet, The photo was taken for a discussion in another thread about setting up Duet to have Scrivener main window on the Mac and the Composition mode window on the extra display. Duet makes the iPad function just like an extra display, so it’s not mirroring. It’s...

Re: Ulysses ** Breaking News **

Yikes, I hope the new model is sustainable for them. I don't use Ulysses (I did buy a previous version, but Scrivener is just much better for my needs), but it is a beautifully designed writing tool, and Keith always has good things to say about the developers and their generosity, and it would be ...
