Re: Google announcement - Building Android and IOS apps in one hit

Yep, that is the one. How long before it’s mainstream is anyone’s guess, but it (possibly) doesn't bode well for Android longer term. there is no end to the speculation. But the fact that G is presenting it for test beds at hardware conventions and such... They've pretty much said F is the platform...

Re: Requesting a Placeholders/Variables/Macros feature, e.g. where I can type $hero$ and it'll be displayed as Bilbo

So... how do I (the writer) know where I typed the actual variable name if I can't see it because it's replaced in the editor? I understand what you are asking, but i think the UI should only show the actual characters typed. To see the variables with full replacement value it should be post compile...

Re: Seeking Advice - Apple or Windows PC

MBA. Not for the warnatee but use... if you're not going to be doing high end computational computing then go for the convenience. Just use external HD or NAS for extending storage. iTunes and Photos are the only ones that I have to be "thoughtful" about when being portable.

Re: Seeking Advice - Apple or Windows PC

Devin, I've never bought "real" apple parts unless I had a board failure. RAM, disks, CDROM are all standard components. I just wait for warranty expiration then buy reputable product on sale. Recently put in 500G SSD in MBP for less than $70 each. Talk about making things fast... The key ...

Re: Seeking Advice - Apple or Windows PC

Devin, I've had similar benchmark as you. Then i realized the missing key "for me" I’ve found the opposite: performance increases slightly with each version of MacOS., or at worst remains the same. I always reinstall from scratch though. In my case I had drivers for audio that were NOT bei...

Re: NiaD 8: Live and Let NiaD

Is this the year the K throws his hat in the ring?
Or is it the year that Piggy explains the gold starts?
Or is it yet another year of disappointment for those that want to know?

He Pa, you may want to post in the NiaD 8 thread. That's where the sign up is. This thread is just where Piggy sequesters me to prevent others from being scared away from NiaD participation.

Re: supersede police and size for a pdf compile

Ioa, I'm thinking it is "policy". Ex: the policy specifies font, font size and margins. It made sense when I read it that way.

But I'm guessing.

Re: Compiling Long Henry-Fieldingesque Chapter Titles

No actual help from me... SURPRISE! But I do like to argue. And since Devin and I have recently ... discussed my poutiness ... I will take exception to his dislike of long chapter titles prior to submission. I've read more than one terrible prepublish book because I found the chapter titles intrigui...

Re: How much money would you require to release a new Linux version?

In linux I'm all deb all the time... unless someone is paying me to think red hat. Then I'm sad. Honestly though, at my point in life I just avoid it all. I'll pay the tax for apple to avoid windows at home. I'm windows at work, and redhat on the servers. My real joy is AVR programming these days. n...

Re: How much money would you require to release a new Linux version?

Let me rephrase. For the most part, I do not wish to offend people by accident. If they are to be offended, I would rather it be done knowingly, as then I have chosen the consequences. And you did not MEAN offense. Which is why I tottered of to my corner, sniffed and pouted. Sometimes kids are bett...

Re: How much money would you require to release a new Linux version?

D, don't read into the "dispute". I'm sure you simply said something at which I randomly chose to take offense, triggering my few remaining grey matter parts to go play in in their own corner muttering "that devin guy looked at me funny". And thanks. I think I've finally gotten o...
