Re: "Chapters" randomly lost text

If you try to create a DEVONthink database in the Documents folder DT will tell you not to do this precisely because of the risk of data loss. The problem is not to do with Scrivener, it is down to the way the Documents folder works.

Re: Scrivener for journalists

I also use DEVONthink Pro Office as my repository for research material (on Mac, iPhone and iPad). My present database totals over 5.2 million words and doesn't bat an eye when I search it. I just tried a search for two names appearing in the same text and got 9 results in 0.075 seconds, graded acco...

Re: Scrivener for journalists

I'm another one of those who began using Scrivener at version 1 point something. Not only have I never used a template other than blank, but I'm rather puzzled as to why anyone would want one. The coffee shop analogy is completely wrong, in my view. The correct analogy, for me, is with a reporter's ...

Thanks Mark. Plainly I haven't woken up yet, or the heat has got to me! I'm usually a little more alert.

@Bartley987 You do realise you are replying to something that was posted eight years ago, right?

Re: Is there a Scrivener Glossary

I wrote a 90,000-word thesis in Scrivener 2 and about the only "feature" I used was footnotes. As you learn about the program you may find uses for some of its functionality or you may not. And some of the uses you find may be things which others have never imagined. It is that open.

Re: Citing in Scrivener

You need to look at the documentation for Endnote or go to their forums. The functionality you are asking about is nothing to do with Scrivener and their tech staff may not know anything about Endnote. I haven't used Endnote for twenty years, so I don't know what it offers nowadays. I far prefer Boo...

Re: How to cross-reference?

Questions are better placed in the Tech Support section. This one is supposed to be for passing on tips, so the Tech Support staff don't check it that often. Anyway, I did something like this in version 2 of Scrivener using the parentposition placeholder. I don't know if this still exists in version...

Re: Notes and references in scrivener

Ex Lettore di madrelingua straniera presso un paio di università nel Veneto :D . Molti italiani fanno fatica pronunciare bene walk/work. Sono vocali che non esistono in italiano. Poi, vedono la parola "fork" e pensano che la pronuncia di "work" dovrebbe essere simile -- ma non è ...

Re: Notes and references in scrivener

I used Scrivener for my PhD thesis, and I would not want to attempt any long-form writing in any other program. That said, my thesis was rather more "conventional" in layout. I'm not quite sure what you are trying to do, and whether by "references" you mean links or pointers to o...

Re: help! project disappeared from scrivener...

I wonder if you are experiencing a lag with internet connection or something of the sort. Dropbox is quick, but it isn't instant. And depending on where you are, a file (or multiple files in the case of Scrivener) might be travelling anything from 1 to 12,000 miles to get to a server. Multiple backu...

Re: Sync Macbook Pro and Imac via Dropbox after upgrade to Scrivener 3 -

It's pretty simple. Basically, you just put your Scrivener project in your Dropbox folder, or a sub-folder if you prefer. One or more Macs can then open the project from that Dropbox folder. The sync is really achieved by Dropbox, not Scrivener. Make sure you never open the same project on two Macs ...
